Menstruation Hygiene

Women’s health and hygiene have been one of the key concerns over the years across the world. The awareness on menstrual hygiene and usage of sanitary napkins is very low in the underprivileged section. A study was recently conducted in randomly selected six coeducational government senior secondary (up to class 12th) schools in India. It reveals that menstruation affects school life in many ways. 65.5% of girls were of the view that it affected their daily activities in school. About 12% of the adolescent girls missed class tests or examinations during menstruation and 58.5% were unable to participate in sports. Project ‘Menstrual Hygiene’ is a unique initiative that was launched by SOSVA in 2018 with the primary objective of bringing about change in the attitude and practices about menstruation among adolescent girls in the age group of 10-18 years and also for their mothers. SOSVA has conducted workshops on ‘Menstrual Health and Hygiene’ for 235 girls in the underprivileged schools of Pune & Mumbai. Our vision is to reach out to a maximum number of adolescent girls by involving corporate bodies and individuals in the program. ‘Menstruation hygiene’ continues being the focus area.

Notebook-textbook, stationery, and toy donation:

SOSVA has been actively involved in the note book donation drives since many years. We raise funds and then distribute note books to the organisations for the under privileged and every year more than 1000 notebooks are donated. SOSVA has also started textbook and toy library for the under privileged organisations across Mumbai wherein the children use the textbooks and toys in rotation. A proper record of the items is maintained and regular reports for the same are sent to all our generous donors. SOSVA also helps the organisations in procuring stationery so that the children don’t have any hurdles in their education.

Daan Utsav

The joy of giving week is celebrated worldwide every year in the month of October, SOSVA also actively participates in Daan Utsav in partner with Give India. Hundreds of our volunteers get together and raise funds for the causes supported by us.
